Florida group put state on good list for once

Some good news after the sunshine state comes right before 2014: its very own Campbell Foundation is the only Florida group on a list of the 69 top philanthropic funders for HIV/AIDS in the country.

The Campbell Foundation awarded $2,500 grants to 20 HIV/AIDS service organizations nationwide, including eight in the tricounty area.

In the spirit of giving, each December the Campbell Foundation gives grants to groups around the country who service HIV/AIDS in some form or another. Campbell’s Program Officer Ken Rapkin calls it a “holiday hug.”

While it may now be a new diet phenomenon according to a June Reuters article, Five On Two Off (or FOTO) actually peeked its head as one answer to the complications of taking AIDS meds so frequently.

 

Funded in part by The Campbell Foundation, a new study by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has shown that a diabetes drug appears to be safe in HIV-infected patients and does not adversely affect their immune systems.
